Another Element of Control

At about 8:25am on the 28th of April 2016, I received a call asking me if I was aware of something called “Codex Alimentarius.” I had heard about it, but had not spent much time with it. The tone of the voice on the telephone betrayed a certain urgency that caused me to revisit the matter. It was not long before I became aware of the reason for the concern. For some time, we have seen an invasion of the control mechanisms where our food supply is concerned. We have seen the massive industry of Genetically Modified Foods and the resulting controversy. We have been subjected to the absolute coercive assault upon the idea that these foods should be clearly identified so that we might be able to make intelligent choices. The matter of genetically modified foods and the uncertainty that it creates is one thing. The protracted invasion of Codex Alimentarius is quite another.
The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations has a website that is devoted to “Codex Alimentarius.” On that website is the UN’s explanation of what the Codex Alimentarius is:
“International food trade has existed for thousands of years but until not too long ago food was mainly produced, sold and consumed locally. Over the last century the amount of food traded internationally has grown exponentially, and a quantity and variety of food never before possible travels the globe today. The Codex Alimentarius international food standards, guidelines and codes of practice contribute to the safety, quality and fairness of this international food trade. Consumers can trust the safety and quality of the food products they buy and importers can trust that the food they ordered will be in accordance with their specifications.” World Health Organization, United Nations.
As beautiful as that may sound, there is much more to be considered. Rep. Ron Paul, who happens to also be a Medical Doctor (MD), on July 18, 2005, published an article entitled: Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) & Dietary Supplements, in which he wrote the following:
“The Codex Alimentarius Commission, organized by the United Nations in the 1960s, is charged with “harmonizing” food and supplement rules between all nations of the world. Under Codex rules, even basic vitamins and minerals require a doctor’s prescription. The European Union already has adopted Codex-type regulations, regulations that will be in effect across Europe later this year.” Ron Paul, Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) & Dietary Supplements.
In other words, Dr. Ron Paul is raising an issue that has been mentioned before but has received very little attention. Dr. Paul back then in 2005 again warned about something that the Pharmaceutical Companies have been pushing for some time. Listen to this!
“Pharmaceutical companies have spent billions of dollars trying to get Washington to regulate your dietary supplements like European governments do. So far, that effort has failed in America, in part because of a 1994 law called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. Big Pharma and the medical establishment hate this Act, because it allows consumers some measure of freedom to buy the supplements they want. Americans like this freedom, however– especially the health conscious Baby Boomers.” Ron Paul, Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) & Dietary Supplements.
This is quite a huge issue. As we proceed, we will revisit and expand upon this. Be aware that the ultimate goal will be, not just to control the quality of food and its supply, but to determine its ultimate value. Remember, that health care systems depend upon the number of available patients who are “covered” by health insurance. Also remember, the patient often never sees the final bill. What a wonderful arrangement! Dr. Paul closes his article this way:
“The largely government-run health care establishment, including the nominally private pharmaceutical companies, want government to control the dietary supplement industry– so that only they can manufacture and distribute supplements. If that happens, as it already is happening in Europe, the supplements you now take will be available only by prescription and at a much higher cost– if they are available at all. This alone is sufficient reason for Congress to oppose the unconstitutional, sovereignty-destroying CAFTA bill.” Ron Paul, Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) & Dietary Supplements.
